North Korea Launches 20 More Trash Balloons Toward South Korea: JCS

North Korea has dispatched additional trash balloons toward South Korea, according to military officials on Saturday. This comes after North Korea alleged that the South had sent unmanned drones over Pyongyang three times since last week.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) reported that approximately 20 balloons were launched from North Korea late Friday into early Saturday morning. About 10 of these balloons landed in Cheorwon, a county near the inter-Korean border in Gangwon Province, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

The JCS noted that the balloons contained household waste, including scrap paper and plastic, and that no hazardous materials were detected.

This incident marks the 28th time North Korea has sent trash balloons to South Korea since May.

In a related development, North Korea claimed on Friday that South Korea had deployed unmanned drones to drop leaflets over Pyongyang on October 3, as well as on Wednesday and Thursday of the current week. However, South Korean Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun stated that he could not verify North Korea’s claims.
